I will be building my first solo built gaming rig for the purpose of college/gaming I have no plans of overclocking as of right now and I just need somebody to check part compatibility, whether or not I can add a better sound card in the future,a blue ray drive in the future, and if I can add a second hard drive in the future my budget is around $850 I will be getting it in about 1 month and I have a monitor and keyboard and mouse if I forgot something or if you need more info tell me sorry everything is bunched up

Looks to be pretty good, your parts will all work together nicely and should be a good system for you. You'll definitely be happy with it. Good luck!

EDIT: You might want to get all your parts from Newegg instead of getting some of them from TigerDirect and some from Newegg. It would make things easier for you in terms of tracking the shipment and getting everything at the same time. Just an idea.

No real compatibility issues, but just some suggestions.

If you're a student you may want to look at this as an alternative source for Windows 7.
http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/windows/buynow/default.aspx

Regarding video card, the GTX 560 Ti is a better card for not much more money.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187136
$229 (so +20 over your planned GTX 460) if you buy the card straight up, or if you're not able to take advantage of the windows student discount thing then there is a combo deal on NewEgg

GTX 560 Ti + Windows 7 Professional.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.607199.14-187-136
That combo is only $10 extra over your previous list (of GTX 460 + Windows)

You also may want to read this review that compared some of the moderately priced CPU's from AMD vs the Sandy Bridge Intel chips.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-cpu-core-i3-2100-phenom-ii-x6-1075t,2859.html
There is a pretty bar graph on last page that has CPU's listed by price along w/ their relative performance scores.
Your CPU (X4 955) lists @ $139 on NewEgg, but it was beat out (slightly) in that article by the $129 I3 2100, and even moreso by the $149 I3 2120, and the $184 I5 2300. All on chips that use less power (as in HALF the power in the case of the I3's) meaning they run cooler, quieter, and would likely overclock better if you were so inclined.

Your case comes w/ two fans already. I would skip the optional third fan at this point. That's easy enough to add later if you find you're having trouble w/ temps.

Good call on getting a modular power supply to reduce cable clutter.

You would have to check, but the Intel might actually end up costing him more after factoring in the different motherboard he would need to buy and possibly triple channel RAM. I'm not by a computer right now that I can price up the parts, but if you can get an Intel set up for the same cost as what you have, it might be a good idea like Copa said.

Hey aren't I entitled to ask him to spend $20 more for a video card and ~$30 more for CPU/Motherboard?
Come on man... didn't I just go out of my way to save him NINE whole dollars (US) on a 3rd case fan? lol :na:

Just joking of course. Yeah, since there are only a few Sandy Bridge motherboards available right now it's tough to match his $85 AMD mobo. So he would likely take a bump up in price on that. Just giving some alternatives since I enjoy spending other people's money.
As a side note, the 1155 socket motherboards don't take triple channel memory... just the first generation chips on 1366 motherboards.

Ah good point. Personally I have always gone with Intel, its probably a better option if you want a rig that will last you a while. I liked your suggestions I was just saying. And very good point, that case fan will practically pay for the video card upgrade! :)

thanks for the advice Ill definitely take advantage of the windows 7 offer but I think I will stay with an amd processor and motherboard but my question about the graphics card is is there a huge difference between the two that might prevent me from running future games and is there a extremely noticeable difference between the 2 when it comes to the actual game and also power consumption and temperature and also would the 560 work with my motherboard

That card would work just fine with your system, and run all of your games very well I'm sure. A good choice too, Asus is a pretty reputable brand. Shouldn't have any troubles with it.

I feel 770 chipset + GTX 460 for that price is too high so

Tower $698AR

OS $99.99

$798AR total

955BE + GTX 560 and room to SLI down the road

My last questions is for that build you recommended would I need to buy a sata cable and would it work with my first case and does the motherboard have an hd sound plug in for the case because after researching the case I choose I relized it doesn't have a ac97 plug

If you're in college in any technology based classes, I would ask around for any licensing agreements your school has with Microsoft. I got a free copy of Windows 7 Professional (32 & 64 bit) just for being a student in a school of business. I don't know how common it is for school's to have this but you might want to at least find out to save yourself some money.

For the money the HAF 912 would be better due to

1. Better cooling options/potential
2. Highly upgradeble, Hemlock HD 5970 capable (fit) and so by extensions Antilles HD 6990 ok as well
3. Gives better options for after market cooler upgrades/fit and cable management

SATA cables are bundled in the boxed motherboard (mostly 2 nos or more)
