F1 start up

Hello,
I removed a cd burner & replaced with a dvd burner. The cd unit was attached to a ribbon like device which is also connected to other components. The replacement unit is attached to SATA 1 on the motherboard. All works well except at start up I need to press F1 or F2 to boot up. I'm running Windows XP home on a Dell Dim. 4200.
What can I do to fix this problem? THANKS, rupert

Did the cable look like this photo? If so, was the CD burner plugged into the connector on the end of the cable, or the one in the middle?

  2. You may have to go into the system bios if you can and change the boot order.
