March 2011 VM host for ~$1500? looking for comments

I currently have i7 920 with 12GB of ram and many VMs dont run well, 3 is really all i'd realistically do. I want to run more like 16. Heres my proposal

Dual socket G34 Motherboard @ ~$350
2 x AMD Opteron 6128 - 8 cores per cpu @ ~$275 = $550
32 GB RAM @ ~ 10 dollars / GB = $320

2 x VelociRaptor 300GB 10000RPM HDs in RAID 0 @ ~$100 per drive

this is 16 vms at 1500 dollars, ~100 per core.

Curious if anyone can do better?

What is your source for parts at those prices?

Also, are you planning to scavenge from the I7 build? I would think the memory would match at least.
