Good reliable starter CPU

Hi

Just a quickie , is there any CPUs to stay away from if i build a low end pc for my mother for web and photos basically so doesnt need performance at all just reliabilty and maybe low power.

There isn't any such things to stay away from by rule. Just decide on your CPU budget select a good CPU in that range and stay away from the rest.

just remember reading somewhere about Pentium Ds being prone to overheating but that was a year or 2 ago now i think.

The Athlon II x2 x3 & x4s are good budget CPUs also the new Pentium G620.

Pentium D's are quite old. Not available in the market today i think. Any of the Athlon's mentioned above by simon12 are good options for your mom.

The Athlons are AM3 (AM2+ and AM3+ will also work but check the processor support list) The Pentium G620 is 1155
