i have an unusual network problem with my desktop pc's which has put me at a loss. I have 2 desktop's and 1 laptop all running genuine windows 7 ultimate (though i also used to experience this under xp)

If i run a broadband speed test on either desktop pc it seems to buffer the data then fire it through all in one go causing claims of 168.89mbp/s or some other fantastical speed. This happens on both pc's using firefox or IE and over wifi or ethernet.

The laptop however smoothly increases the estimated speed on the test everntually reporting back something reasonable like 6.5mbp/s

one desktop is running

ECS 7050M
AMD atholn 64 x2 2.2ghz
3gb ram (2gb + 1gb)
nvidia 7500 gt

the other

Asus M4A78 Pro
AMD Athlon 64 x2 2.3ghz
4gb ram (4x1gb)
nvidia 9500gt

the laptop is

HP G60 Notebook pc upgraded to win 7 ultimate

hm... What speed test are you using? I always use speedtest.net and pingtest.net. If you don't use those two, give it a shot, and see how it goes.
