I have a Dell Inspiron 530 - installed an Nvidia 5200 card. In the bios, the setting says to initially use the PCI slot - so it does. But when Windows boots up, the output goes through the motherboard. How do I get it to use the graphics card???

Do you mean that when you boot the system it auto selects the onboard graphics and will not recognize the monitor connected to the 5200 card?

Does the manual say that the system can auto select between onboard and discrete graphics?

Please confirm that:
Your 5200 card is PCI and not PCIe or AGP
The BIOS setting you are talking about specifically for the disabling onboard graphics
No devices are connected to the onboard graphics connections, only the 5200
