HELP!

Been using my wee Fuji FinePix A210 since April of last year. Went to
download some pics this evening to my pc and nothing happened. It made the
usual daa-duum noise but no prompt.

I have rebooted the software supplied with the camera, but alas, no
improvement. I've re-started my computer on a number of occassions, checked
my connections, taken out the little memory card et al, all to no avail.

I am no computer geek, but I'm sure this is something simple. Any ideas or
advice is welcomed.

With the camera plugged into the PC and switched on, you should be able to
see another drive showing in My Computer. That will be your camera. You can
then browse that drive as you would another to get to the files.

If you can get that far; let us know what version of Windows you are using,
and what action *should* happen when you plug your camera in and then we can
advise on what needs to be done to re-enable that feature.

Harvey, I can already tell you may be a savour <g>

I'm using windows XP Professional and have undertaken your task. I can see
the pictures on my camera but seem unable to copy them to me "test folder".

This is puzzling to say the least.

What happens when you try to copy? Any message or nothing?

Puzzling indeed - you should be able to copy the files off the folder. Any
error messages? Anything happen at all?

Well I gave up last night. When I tried to copy, absolutely nothing happened
other than the acknowledgement sound. I was getting irate so I slept on it.

This morning was exactly the same. I decided to do a system restore to the
date I last used my camera (Friday) Eureka, it's working again.

I don't have the foggiest idea what happened and I hope it doesn't occur
again.

Hey...don't panic. It is probably your Autoplay feature in XP.

It's notorious for switching itself off. It happened to me to, and when
I would plug in my camera, FinePix wouldn't come up.

Now, here's where I'm less helpful: I'm not sure how you switch it back
on, but I'm pretty sure it's in Device Manager. I'm sure you could do a
Google search as well.

There's also a small utility you can download that will fix your
autoplay if it isn't working.

Hope this helps.

Here's one method of enabling/disabling XP's autoplay feature.

Goto the Start Menu and select the Run dialog.

Enter gpedit.msc and you'll start the Group Policy editor.

Look under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.
Scroll through the settings and you should find 'Turn off Autoplay'.
Right-click and you can enable/disable it.

Also check the User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.
The 'Turn off Autoplay' can also be enabled/disabled here.

Don't quote me on this (!) but i think that Computer Configuration changes
apply machine-wide and User Configuration changes only apply to the
currently logged-on user. You may want to Google for further info.

Martin.
