I have a Dell Inspiron laptop which is only about a year old.
Currently, I have the laptop set to hibernate whenever I close the lid.
Occasionally, when I open up lid and push the button to turn remove the
laptop from hibernation mode, the laptop freezes on the login screen.
It gets to the screen, and tells me that the laptop is locked and that
I should press CTRL/ALT/DEL to unlock it. I do exactly that, but
nothing happens - it stays on that log in screen. It won't even let me
enter my password to unlock and log back into the system.

As I said, this happens occasionally, but it's getting to be annoying.

Can anyone tell me what could be causing this and how I can go about
preventing it from happening?

You can email me at atlasblack@yahoo.com

Thank you very much!!

Some of these problems are related to the ATI driver (I assume you have an
ATI graphics card in your Inspiron?). Try to disable Powerplay in the
advanced display settings. That did the trick for me when I had a similar
problem in my Inspiron 600m.

You could try seeing if there is a BIOS update for the Dell on their
website. I just fixed someone's Sony VAIO with a similar problem;
Sony had a new BIOS that was supposed to address their problem. Also,
you could try getting a newer video driver for your video card.
