1600 ram runs at 800mhz on p8p67 pro

Not sure what causes this but my ram is running at 800mhz. In the bios it is set to run at 1600(or 1648 or something weird like that). I use cpu-z to check the speed. CPU is i-7 2600k clocked at 4.2. BLCK is 104. Also it is 4x4g ram so, maybe if I need to switch to 2x4g ram??? If so would less ram at a higher speed be better for gaming?? I currently only see 20-30% ram usage MAX.

Don't worry. Nothing is wrong. You can check out picture of other people system and they run at 800 Mhz. I have the same RAM kit and that is what mine say.

The DDR part of DDR3 means 'Double Data Rate'. Meaning that it can effectively do 2 times the work per clock. RAM is most often referred to by its effective speed in this case 1600MHz which is twice that of its "real" speed which is 800Mhz. CPU-Z just reports the real speed. Your RAM is functioning perfectly fine.

As to Faster but Less RAM for gaming, from what I have read Intel's RAM controller is really good and the speed of RAM has little effect on performance.
