My Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H has autoset my 965's vcore to 1.425v, OCed to 3.9ghz. I took no notice of this for a while, but I've gradually been noticing that everyone else's voltage seems to be lower. Is this too high?

More about : 43v high 965

1.42 -1.44 is peak of default ... and for me is very safe for daily, as long as the temperature at peak usage time temp work no more than 55C :)

You mean 3.9ghz vcore 1.43v .. It's very safe and normal

However somewhat important to keep in the specified voltage (1.4v), your main enemy is temperature. Stay under AMD specified safe (62C I believe?) while in full load (preferably during Small FFT Prime95 test) and you'll be good.

Don't be fooled by prime95 test.
Mafia 2 makes higher temperatures.

For ex. my cpu blend test 4hours. Max 59 stays 57-58.
Mafia 2 max 62 stays ~60

And a 1.43v is a bit high. I have my phenom 3,6ghz @ 1.35v no problems. Also easily oced to 3.8 but my cooler is too weak to cool that clock.

Different hardware, softaware will be different result temperature voltage and score benchmark

My loads never get above 53 or 55. No problems there.

I also get higher in-game temps on my GPU than in folding@home or any stress test, by 5 degrees or so. In 35 celsius weather it was 62 folding and 68 in Crysis 2 (gtx 460, clocks below).

Xigmatek SD963.
Ambient is currently around 22; I'm gonna run some Prime and see what I get.

It sounds a bit fantastic that this cooler runs 965 @ 1.46v @ 3.9ghz with max load temp 55.

I have almost the same case scythe katana 3 955 @ 1.35 @ 3.6ghz and with that room temp it gets about 58-59 max temp. But when room temps reaches 30c+ it gets 61c+ playing mafia

So his cheap 92mm cooler performs almost the same as your liquid cooling system.
Doesn't that sound great? :D

Well I think that you are smart enuff to not to compare liquid cooling and air cooling idle temps. :)

I don't know if I have faulty chip or what.

But when I set cpu level to 3.8ghz it automaticaly raises voltage to 1.475 then I get 68c of prime95 in seconds.

Airflow in my case is very similar to yours. 12cm back/ 14cm top exhaust. 12cm intake on the side.

It's possible that you do. All chips are not created equal.
Also, 955 vs 965?

Does anybody know why I can't choose a best answer in any of my threads?

I can't manualy set voltage in my bios. There's no such a option.

Don't know how to do that. If it's an option in the BIOS, I haven't come across it - I don't know if it's on.
In not-exactly-idle, surfing and a little CADKEY 98 (terrible program, for school) temps are all 39. I'm going to go out for half an hour, turn aero off, leave speedfan on and see what the true idle temps are.

Finaly found how to lower voltage. There were no option in bios. But I've set amd overdrive to advanced mode and it works.

Set voltage to 1.3125 @ 3.6ghz but no temperature difference.

56-58 running blend room temp ~23-24c

What would be the safe minimum voltage for 3.6? 3.8?

Well, bluescreening at insufficient voltage shouldn't hurt anything, so you might as well try. Hope you have a backup.
Did you restart after changing it in Overdrive?

I've managed to set my clocks and voltages by overdrive. It works well. temps are way lower. Just I've found one bug clocks sets to default after computer waking up from sleep.

So can't use this ability.

So a driver could do it? I had a bluescreen before I updated my card driver, and I haven't had one since, but it wasn't exactly a common problem.
