Looking to build a nice gaming rig centered around an i7 and a nVidia GTX570 Superclock. I prefer eVGA graphics cards as I've just had nothing but good luck with them. Mobo I'm open.

Right now I'm looking to spend maybe $1200. I just want to be sure I'm spending it responsibly.

This is what I have now:

CPU: Q6600 G0 @ 2.4ghz OC'd to 3.6 ghz
Mobo: eVGA nForce 780i SLI
Video: (2) BFG nVidia 8800GTX OC SLI
Sound: SB X-FI Extreme Gamer
Memory: 8GB G.Skill 5-5-15
PS: Thermaltake Toughpower 850w
Cooling: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Case: Antec Nine Hundred
OS: Vista x64

As you can see this is a pretty dated system. I was thinking of perhaps picking up a GTX570 Superclock and Windows 7 this weekend and throw it into my current system just to see what happens with performance. But ultimately, maybe in another 2-4 weeks I would like to purchase the remaining components of a new i7 build.

Thanks for the help folks,
Chris

Hello DU;

Your plan to get the GTX 570 and Win7 now is a smart move IMO. Approved.

With that Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz I think you'll find it's not holding back your GTX 570 much at all.
Benchmark your current games and then test again after the upgrade. You might find you don't mind waiting even a bit longer.
As the new crop of SSDs and with the rollout of the new B3 motherboards complete you'll see a few price adjustments that could work in your favor.
