Hey guys,

I've been re speccing some of my new rig and I was wondering about the Wattage capacity for a PSU. I'll most likely be running the following:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T BE or the AMD Bulldozer when it comes out
Crosshair IV AMD 890FX
G.SKILL 8GB DDR3 1600
XFX HD 6990 4GB (Single card for now but may upgrade to Crossfire in the future)
1TB 7200 RPM HDD
2 x 3TB 5400 RPM WD Green HDD
CM HAF X RC-942
Corsair H70
and DVD drive

I've run this spec through some online PSU calculators and I've resulted in answers of 900W-1200W. I'm not sure if that's reasonable for that amount of hardware but with the Bulldozer and possible 6990 CF it wouldn't seem too farfetched.

Post any thoughts you may have, as I don't really know much about PSU Wattage bar online calculators and reasonable estimating.

Thanks.

The following review has the 6990 using around 331W:

If you're running quad-fire, you'll probably be hitting a wattage requirement somewhere in the 800s (based on the review... ~200W for system at idle, another 294W for the first card at full load and another 331W with the second card at full load=825-ish). Your amp requirement on the 12V rail will be somewhere around 15A for an OC'd CPU + 28A for each 6990 (331W/12V) = 71A for processor and video.

With a little overhead to accommodate aging system components and the supply itself and reduced system efficiency over time, a good option would be this Corsair HX1050 supply...

I guess the thing I don't understand about your build, though, is you spec'ing out all top of the line performance products and throwing some of the absolute slowest HDDs into the mix?

I got around 800W with that calculator, I'll look for a PSU around the 1000W range.

The 7200 RPM HDD will be enough for my OS and programs. The other two will just be for media which they don't really need the speed for.

I'll consider it, there's a few around that Wattage to have a look it. Thanks.

I hope so, I'll be looking to pimp out the rest of my room along with it. Just started a high paying job so I'm going to be dumb with my money for the first few pay checks :D

Yeah a WD Black was my first choice, always been a WD guy.

Thanks for the replies.
