Hello!

It's getting to be that time, but with all I know about computers, I've never built one, and know very little about which components are considered 'high end' and such.

I'm currently running 3D modeling software including SketchUp, Revit, and SoftPlan, as well as rendering software.

Current System:

64-bit Windows 7
AMD Phenom II X4 925 (2.8GHz)
8GB RAM (not sure what type)
And whatever graphics card that came with it.

I'm finding that the 8GB RAM isn't enough for some of the processes. Obviously my system is extremely fast, but I need it for more than everyday use. I'm looking to end up with 16-32GB

Can anyone recommend an AMD Opteron 6000 12 Core Processor? Or the NVIDIA TESLA C2070? As well, what about stinging a few shells together? And, would there be a benefit to stinging 6 or 8 PlayStation 3s' together instead? Something I read up on.

This may sound overkill, but I need to provide ridiculously fast rendering services and high quality 3D video walkthroughs.

hm... maybe you should go with something more than just a quad core... with that budget you should think about the extreme editions of the i7... hexa cores with hyper threading total of 12 threads and should overclock nicely if you wish to do plus they run on triple channel so you get a lot of ram... amd opteron should do the job fine as well... but amd is launching its bulldozer line shortly and it should perform a lot better than opteron... you can always opt for intel's server processors... xenons... some motherboards are dual socket so you can run two xenons which should make rendering... intel processors perform better but opterons have more cores for less... which is good for rendering but i dont think price is really a problem here with a 4k budget.. o_O
