Usb ports not working

I plug my printer into my usb ports (ive tried them all) but the computer does not recognize that the printer is plugged in and will not print anything. I've used this printer many times before but now its not working. I did the troubleshooter thing but still no difference? any ideas on how to make it work?

If it is vista you are running, I just restart the computer. Works for me.

If not, try to provide what you have and what you have done before the problem.
