i just put together my computer and now it won't load windows xp sp3 (this is my old hdd from my old comp) gets to the win logo then reboots tried a repair but no luck. do i have to format?

mobo is m4a79xtd
8gb ramm
ati 5770
cpu amd phenom 2 x4 be
psu corsair 650

forgot to mention i can get into safe mode, safe mode with command, but when tried with networking tells me i have to activate windows.

Assuming the HD is good, I would do a zero fill, then install the OS.

yeah i thought formatting was my only choice
