7200rpm HD expect a 5% increase in power consumption.

Personally, I cannot tell the difference between 5400 and 7200rpm performance-wise. 2.5inch hhd is considerably slower than 3.5inch ones use on a desktop.

Get an SSD if you want both good performance and low power consumption.

Suggest Acer TimelineX, if you want a sleek looking laptop with good batterylife.

Some 2.5 HDDs are much faster than mainstream 3.5s. Rotation speed is one of many factors that affect driver performance including data density and cache. Everything else being equal, the difference between 5400 and 7200 is noticable both in a performance and power consumption sense.
