I may get a DVD drive soon, but that depends on the use. I plan on backing up my DVDs on to CD for my labtop, however, I am also a video editing enthusiast. Would it be possible to edit on either Adobe Premiere or Ulead programs the MPEG-4 files at a later time.

As far as I'm aware these programs will not recognize MPEG4 format. But eventually there will be programs and firmware to do MPEG4 editing.
The alternative is to do all the editing in mpeg2 and then convert it to mpeg4.

I don't know about Ulead, but as long as the correct codecs are installed on your computer, you CAN edit and output MPEG 4 with premiere. I tried it after reading your post and am 100% certain it works.

Any editing program should work as long as you can tell it what where and what CODEC to use.

Sorry I have not tried any yet.
Nice to know Premiere works.
