Explain more.

Have you checked Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager to see if it's present or yellow flagged as faulty ?

44stud: Check the BIOS screens to make sure it's not been disabled at start up. Go back to Device Mnager and see if you can enable it there.

Find the CD which came with the computer or motherboard (or check maker's site) for the multi-driver pack which will include a driver for the Network Adapter.

If all else fails just add a new adapter (PCI or USB if desktop or USB PCMCIA if laptop). More than one can coexist and they are mostly cheaper than tearing your hair out.
