hi i was thinking of building a PC, with no previous experience i m looking forward for some advice on the selections i made for the components

First of all the main purpose of it is Video Editing/encoding/converting/ripping. Generally i use h264 Codecs for encoding.......

Here are the parts i have selected. Let me Know if there is any compatibility issues or something that should be changed for higher performance.....

1) Zalman MS1000-H1 Profesional Quiet Computer Case (i m not going for looks but reliability)

2) Intel Core i7-970 ( i did came across some benchmarks comparing this to i7 2600k with that being on top for h264 conversion, but with this being 6 cores it must be better i believe, let me know)

3) ASUS Sabertooth X58 Motherboard - LGA 1366, Intel X58,
SLI Ready, CrossFireX Ready, Triple Channel DDR3
support, SATA 6GB/s, USB 3.0

4) Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

5) Radeon HD 6970 (2GB)

6) CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91
SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active
PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

7) Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III
MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ( i don't need much space since i clear up the hard drives and keep everything on external drives, would ssd investment really help in for performance of video conversions..........?_

8) i m still confused with the cooling, i surely will need a cpu cooler but cant really decide on that.... a little help on that would be appreciated..........another thing i saw some custom cooling installation on graphic cards...is that really necessary?? the fan on graphic card itself wouldn't be enough??

if i missed out on any part please let me know:)

Go for the 2600K the whole x58 chipset is now dated and a waste of money. otherwise it all looks good the power supply is higher than you need unless you plan to run 2 cards at a later date. As for the cooler you only need one better than the included stock one if you are planning to overclock in which case I recommend the hyper 212+

Hi nyyankee88!
many of what you have purchased are essential to photoshopping and h264 conversion. As belong the more cores the more better it is for you.

However with the i7 six core gulftown still being expensive as it is, do you think its worth the money?

Yep, get the the 2600K and a Z68 mobo with Quicksync (not all of them have that).

850w is plenty for the PSU even if you will run two video cards.

Get 1.5V RAM.

Get some other SSD, C300 doesn't play nice with the 1155 socket.

You don't need custom cooling on the video card, get one with factory custom cooling:

i m still stuck with i7-970 and i7-2600k in both of my hands cant just decide over them??

what in your mind would be max overclocking with safety for 2600k ?? i7-970 doesnt seems to go that much up as far what i have seen....

and about the bench marks they are comparing single cores if i m correct?? in that case even after overclocking i7-970 would be around one core advantage over 2600k??

and yes i m planning to add additional graphic cards and overclocking in future which is why i m keep my options open with not running out of power supply:)

The i7 has massive overclocking headroom. There is a big difference in performance as we see.

If you are able to Overclock it properly and of course with a good HSF then i think you are seeing the performance of a GulfTown 6 core 12thread cpu such as the i7 980x.

i have looked at the review you showed but am still kind of confused...its just my first time before this i havnt really cared of anything lolzzz....

the reason i chose 1000 watts is to have upgrrades in future overcloking..cooling...video cards....just to be on the safe side

as for 1.5 volts..... would this do it??

as for ssd i m thinking of this one... what you say
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227706&cm_re=vertex_3-_-20-227-706-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3946032&SID=skim2305X575088X38bede61f0480ebc5df4bd74544ce7f9

as for the graphic cards you provided....which 1 would you recommend in ???

since all the difference is couple of dollar up and down with different brands:)
