Hey guys
I'm fairly new to building computers, but I have done a lot of research through various websites and I came up with a build that I think is fairly good. It never hurts to ask for a second opinion so that's why I'm here. Also, I do believe everything is compatible with each other but not 100% sure. I plan on getting another video card, and adding another 4 gigs of ram later down the road. By the way, this is going to be a budget gaming build. Please help me out and tell me if this is solid. Thanks

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Video Card: GIGABYTE Ultra Durable VGA Series GV-N460OC2-1GI GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX
Mother Board: GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD3-B3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K
CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel ...
Power supply: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850 V2 850W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power ...
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

I already have a monitor, but might add an additional one later in time also.

Hello dkooys;

Did you get the i5 2500K & Hyper 212+ CPU cooler in the combo deal?

CPU/MB/RAM combo is compatible and very good choices of parts. (great deal on the HyperX RAM, isn't it? Good find there.)

HDD/DVD - already have a DVD burner?

GPU: your GTX 460 is going to a home in a CrossfireX motherboard. The P67A-UD3 does not support SLI. Maybe take a XFX HD 6870 $180 after rebate instead?
Also the P67A-UD3 will do CFX @ x16/x4 instead of the preferred x8/x8. If you went with a CFX setup you'd loose some overall performance. This isn't a total downcheck though. You might just keep upgrading with single video card, but the CFX option would be there.
P67A-UD4 (not yet shown up at NewEgg) is a x8/x8 CFX & SLI board.

What resolution is that monitor of yours?

Your TX850 V2 850W is sized for a couple really powerful video cards. Do you have upgrade plans for a couple GTX 580s or something like that?

Thanks for your input. I didn't realize that the mother board was crossfire x until now. I forgot to mention that I am getting a ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner. I didn't get get the cpu cooler and cpu in a combo. You already helped me out on that so thanks. I might possibly upgrade in the near future. Ill take a look at the motherboard you suggested and get back to ya. Thanks again for your response.

Reply to dkooys

Is the XFX HD 6870 better the the gtx 460. Also I couldn't find the combo deal of the cpu and cooler.

Reply to dkooys

Click on the link above to get to the CPU/cooler combo deal.

What games will you be playing the most? What monitor resolution?
GTX 460/HD 6870 are pretty close in price AND performance.

1680x1050 is my current monitor resolution. I am planning on playing SC2 and Diablo 3 when it comes out. Might give crysis 2 a shot also. I added that combo btw. So If I go with the video card you suggested, do you see any flaws with this build?

Reply to dkooys

Nothing major. SC2 does favor the Nvidia cards over the AMD/ATI cards.
If you want to keep the GTX 460 and have an SLI option we can find a motherboard for that.

Also we can get a good quality 650W PSU that will have enough power for 2x GTX 460s or GTX 560 Tis if you upgrade your monitor to a 1920x1080 model or go for dual 1680x1050s

Well I went through cyberpower, but ran into problems with them. So hopefully I will get a refund in a few days so I can order this. I went with that power supply b/c it came in a combo with the hard drive. I figured I would need at least a 750 watt power supply if I upgraded my video card. Starcraft 2 is the main game I will be playing. Why does SC@ favor NVIDIA? whats the difference? Thanks for your help btw man

Reply to dkooys

Some games just seem to favor one brand over the other.
THG: StarCraft II Revisited: How Much Gaming PC Do You Need? They're recommending the GTX 460 or better.

Let me do some more research, and ill get back to ya man, thanks for all the help again so far.

Reply to dkooys

Be sure to let us know how things work out.

Here is a Step-by-Step Guide to Building a PC

Look over the forum's "System won't boot" checklist to see some of the common build errors and how to avoid them.

-> The usual advice; read the manual / install guide; look at the parts, read the manual again and if everything makes sense and looks right - then go ahead with the install.

While you're waiting you can download the online version of the motherboard manual and start getting familiar with it. Same for the other parts you want to order if they have install guides or manuals available.

So the MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard you sent wouldn't work for dual Nvidia cards correct?

It WILL work with 2x Nvidia cards in SLI. Or 2x AMD/ATX cards in CFX.

That set of RAM is 1.65v @ 1600 which is above the standard 1.5V. Your motherboard will probably chose to run the RAM @ 1333 & 1.5V.
Still it's a very good set of RAM and a great value. Here is a review: Kingston HyperX blu KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX Review @ OverclockersClub

The top brands of MBs are probably Asus and Gigabyte. Asrock and MSI would be just a notch below them but still good hardware and usually at a bargain price.

Ok, everything's been double checked for compatibility and its all good.
You have a larger PSU than necessary but that's not a problem of course.

Have you checked to see if there are combo deals with your parts choices you haven't grabbed?

Im looking through the St Patricks Day sales email letter.

The RAM set you picked is fine. When you first setup the system the RAM will probably run @ 1333 automatically. You'll be able to adjust the setting in the BIOS to get 1600.

Alright Just 1 more question and then I am good to go. Im going to buy a few APEVIA CF12SL-URED 120mm Red LED Case Fan. Are they compatable? Also whcih video card do you think is better? I was told that in order to make computers more compatable you should try to buy everything from the same company, or you will likely have more problems with it. Not sure if thats true or not.

Reply to dkooys

Do you want to get a red fan for your Hyper 212+?

The same company=more compatible theory sounds right buy in practice it doesnt always quite work out that way. I wouldn't pass up a great bargain just becauses it's a different MGFRs for the MB and GPU.

The Hyper 212+ has it's own thermal compound in the accessory pack. It's that tube on the lower left.

COOLER MASTER SickleFlow 120 R4-L2R-20AR-R1 120mm Silent operation Red LED case fan has a higher air flow and lower noise profile than the stock CPU fan.

You'll notice a 2nd set of fan rails - those black rails on the right side - that you can use to mount a 2nd fan on the Hyper 212+ in a push-pull config.

You use a 'case fan' as the fan on the CPU cooler. Using a red LED case fan on your cpu cooler - gives you a red LED fan on your Hyper 212+.
