i would like to build my own htpc. need some advice on the parts. i will be only using it for surfing(multi tasking) blue ray movies and i would like to use my old tivo box as the case. i have a wd 2tb drive i was gonna use to upgrade my tivo and thought why not use it here? also would like to incorperate my lifestyles 25 as my sound....any help would be apppreciated....please be specific i am new ....thanks

With that size width and depth you seem to have a lot of options, it is the height that may cause issues. If you could spend up to 800 then you could easily build from scratch with a decent case and get a better idea as to what you can do.

No use your 2TB you may want another HDD for back-up, the first board will work...

awesome! thanks. you've made this pretty simple for me. i am going to order the parts and start assembling. any suggestions on wireless keyboard and mouse? also, this is prob a dumb question, but why stop now?....lol. don't i need a sound card?

Thats really a preferance I think high-end stuff like saitek and logitech G15 are nice but really pricey. microsoft and Rosewill do fine too...I am still using my Compaq Presario Keyboard circa 2003..and a Logitech Trackman....

Sound is onboard and is usually fine I believe that board supports 7.1 sound....also the Video Card has Sound support incorporated into the HDMI port

your gonna kill me...lol. saw this for $120 AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core Processor 955 Black Edition Boxed. is this an upgrade or are the numbers misleading. or is it overkill? wasnt sure if the extra wattage was a problem, i would assume not. but then again i know nothing. thanks again youve been a great help

Hell yes, get that 955 its a nice upgrade to the Athlon II 640....Its overkill,BUT I love overkill..The extra wattage is just a little more. That PSU will handle it with ease
