There was a link to a test of some of these phones that someone posted a few
months back. Compared to a digital camera, the images were pretty horrid.

A friend got me to print a photo from his new Sony phone (1 or so MP I
believe and he said it had had good reviews for photo taking). It was taken
in a room with tungsten lights and it was the most noisy photo ever seen on
my PC. I had to use noise reduction software to make it slightly passable
but there was no disguising the terribly blurred (large) corners of the
image. I would have binned it but he was pleased. There was EXIF info
saying 1000 ISO. The white balance/colours were pathetic as well.

I beleave that camera phones are a joke, but millions take the bait, and go
for it. Now they are going for Video phones, whats next. We are all going to
be spyes, taking cannid photos of each other. Just give me a good phone, and
I will
get a good Camera.

I haven't tried them myself, but by now most new mobile phones have a
camera and the trend is towards megapixel resolutions.
I guess that they are not suitable for low light, but in good lighting
conditions the results maybe are better. It's certainly not advisable to
push such a tiny CCD to ISO 1000.

Not as much as today with the shrinking cameras.
Some perverts are using them in rest rooms and bath areas. Some places ban
cell phones in public swimming bath areas.

Well, 35mm was a cheap idea. Why try to sell a new type of camera with a
new hard-to-get film size when the movie industry had been using 35mm
stock for years. But 'they' decided to use 2 movie frames to make one
'still' frame - idiotic! the 2:3 ratio caused huge problems with paper
sizes.
Megapixel cellphones are a poor substitute for a 'real' camera, and
after all, Star Trek is set 300 years in the future and you don't see
any of them using a cellphone!
