Gaming upgrade for radeon x1900xtx budget $50ish

I forgot to ask this in my other topic. was wondering if I wanted to upgrade my x1900xtx for something better in the HD series what my best bet would be for around $50.

current system 550w power supply, asus p5wd2 premium motherboard, Intel pentium D 3.2, 2gb ram

I don't really want to put much money into my current system since I plan on building a new one later this year just want something to kind of tide me over till then.

Any help would be appreciated thank you

  1. Didn't you just want to buy a GPU for 100 dollars? Well regardless...

    GT 240

It isn't much of an upgrade though...
  2. Performance wise there is no upgrade for $50. There is in technology but it is not powerful to use the features like DX11 in gaming.
This HD5750 is the lowest I would recommend as an upgrade http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150448

Yeah thats what I recommended to him in the other thread when his budget was 100 dollars.
  4. Thank you both I will most likely go with the $100 one I was just hoping there might be a cheaper option instead hence asking about something around $50.
  5. Your 550w psu can power any card up to as much as a 6950.
Why not spend what you would have on a graphics card now?
Just keep it for your new build later.
  6. Any thing less than a 3870/9800gt is going to be a down grade and even then a 5670 isn't going to cut it due to fill rates. You need at least a 5750 to be a meaningful upgrade. I have a x1900xt which is the same card as you have now with the only difference being like 25-50mhz on the core. So just keep your card and save.
