Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster here:

I recently built a PC with an Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3 motherboard and an Intel i7 2600K processor. I'm running Win7 64 bit.

I used the Asus motherboard software to do an "Auto Tune" overclock. I've done overclocking in the past, but I just wanted something quick and easy. I was impressed that it took my CPU up over 4.5GHz and has run stable ever since.

I noticed today using CPU-Z that the Core speed tends to vary. When opening an application or doing some "work" it does display 4.5GHz. But under normal load (like typing this message) the Core speed has dropped to 1.648GHz (the multiplier drops from 44 to 16). I suspect this is a power saving feature, but I'm wondering if it's normal. Are there settings I could/should change to keep the core speed up at all times?

Solution
It is because it has power saving feature on. When not in use or not in the need of power, it clocks down to 1.6GHz or so.

When its needed, it will go back to full speed...
