Mobo main connector question!

Hi there,

Buying a new i5 setup, using the Asus P55 mobo. Specs say it has a 24 pin connector for the main connector. When choosing a powersupply, what the heck is the difference between a 24 pin main connector and a 20 + 4 pin connector?

Most ps come with a break away 4 pin to work with older 20 pin atx boards. One of my ps had a 24 to 20 pin adapter instead of the break off pins. Both work the same.
