I have an Advent 6415 which is a the same as a Gericom N340S8. It
will not charge the battery but still works of the small charge
left. The PSU is ok. Is there anything I can try to repair this.

Not being there or having more information, it sounds like the battery
is failing to me. In the future with a new battery, don't have the
battery in the laptop. Don't leave the battery in the laptop when
unused. The only time the battery should be in the laptop is to charge
or use it off of battery power.
