PSU Size

Hello,

What power supply would be best for a GTX 470 and dedicated physics GTX 260?

Then what affordable CPU could cope with this setup?

  1. Apologies first.
    A GTX470, a GTX260 for physics and a 2.3ghz quad ?
You should be more worried about getting a cpu that can push data to either of those cards by themselves than a new psu.
Ever heard the term " bottleneck " ?
  2. Oops! Guess i over estimated the ability of the CPU then. I've had it about a year 1/2 but thought it should still cope. What CPU first then? and then what PSU?

    :D
  3. Don't know what you're running, if you could overclock to 3.6 would be good.
Then a 750 watt psu from one of the big boys ( Antec, Corsair )
  4. Processor (CPU)
    Intel® Core™2 Quad Q8200 (4 X 2.33GHz) 1333MHz FSB/4MB Cache
    Motherboard
    ASUS® P5N-D: DDR2, SATAII, 2 x PCI-e x16, 2 PCI, 2 x PCI-e x1
    Memory (RAM)
    4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz - (2x2GB)
    Graphics Card
    1280MB GTX 470 PCI Express
    2nd Graphics Card
    896MB GEFORCE GTX260 PCI Express + DVI
    Power Supply
800W Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan (THIS JUST DIED RECENTLY)
    Processor Cooling
SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER (NOW WANT LIQUID COOL)
EFX 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO
    ONBOARD 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT

I bought the above from www.PCSpecialist.co.uk

If i need a new CPU, i want it to be capable but affordable, as is the same for a new power supply and tower.

Basically i bought the above spec with just the GTX 260. I decided i wanted a new card (GTX 470) with ded. Physx (use the old gtx 260). However for some reason my PSU died so now i am looking to get a new cooling chassis, Liquid CPU cooler, and suitable PSU.

I was hoping that the CPU would still be capable. I am struggling to find a PSU and Chassis Combo that is the right power (cos i don't know how much i need) and a good price.

    Cheers.
