Hello All,

I am getting a Cpu Over temperature error during start-up.My motherboard is Asus m3a78-em and processor is Phenom Triple core 8450. Temperature readings from BIOS are
CPU Temp - 108 Degree
Motherboard temperature - 37 Degree
Cpu fan speed is shown as 3500 Rpm.

CPU Core voltage is 1.3V.

I tried touching the CPU heat-sink and is really hot. I tried re-inserting the CPU and applied the paste. It didn't work.

Sometimes I can boot into windows. But it restarts frequently.

Can you help me to figure out the problem.

Is this a new install or was the computer running fine before?

Have you reset the bios to defaults in the off chance it's being overclocked?

Sounds like you aren't setting your heatsink/fan correctly

Yup... Computer was running fine for months.
I didn't reset the BIOS. Also didn't tried over-clocking...

If it is the case then will the heat sink be so hot? I touched it and was hot. Also the fan is running at around 3500 rpm.

Today I tried one more thing. I Installed a couple of windows apps that shows the CPU core temps. The readings for both apps were around 40 degree instead of the 108 degree reading from the BIOS. :o

Which reading is more reliable and which one I should trust.... Confused... Anyway system is booting into windows and not restarting now... :D

AMD cpus will sizzle and burn at 108C. The TJ max for an AMD cpu is 62C.

If your CPU was running at 108C, it would not do this for very long, i assure u. The 40C reading is the one I would trust :p

sounds like you may need a bios update. it looks like your bios isnt reading the cpu correctly...

but you will still want to go into bios and load optimized defaults to be sure.

if you do flash the bios. make sure you do the above at the first reboot.

sounds like the BIOS reading is in degF not degC 40c = (9/5*40) + 32 = 112 degF
