Alienware AW2210 connect using vga cable

Hello,

I have bought AW2210 Alienware Monitor and trying to connect with Thinkpad(T400), which has only VGA port.
So I have got an DVI-D to VGA adapter as Monitor does not have VGA port.
But, Laptop is not detecting the monitor. Any pointers would be really helpful.

VGA = Analog. DVI-D = digital. If the monitor accepts anolog then you need a DVI-I adapter since it carries anolog signal which DVI-D does not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

Hi rolli could you please also tell me what are these dvi-d to vga adaptors used for?

Then you can use a DVI cable, the docking station has a DVI connection. Dock will allow you to use a regular keyboard and mouse with the monitor as well, for a better computer experience whith the monitor anyway. If you want to use dual screens (Laptop screen and monitor, that will work as well.
