Alienware AW2210 connect using vga cable

Hello,

I have bought AW2210 Alienware Monitor and trying to connect with Thinkpad(T400), which has only VGA port.
So I have got an DVI-D to VGA adapter as Monitor does not have VGA port.
But, Laptop is not detecting the monitor. Any pointers would be really helpful.

VGA = Analog. DVI-D = digital. If the monitor accepts anolog then you need a DVI-I adapter since it carries anolog signal which DVI-D does not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

My suggestion is to get a docking station for the T400 http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=t400+docking+station&_sacat=See-All-Categories, used ones are not much compared to having to buy all sorts of cables to test. Then you can use a DVI cable, the docking station has a DVI connection. Dock will allow you to use a regular keyboard and mouse with the monitor as well, for a better computer experience whith the monitor anyway. If you want to use dual screens (Laptop screen and monitor, that will work as well.

converts digital to analog not vise versa.
