Video editing - Vegas Pro

Hello, guys,
Could you please suggest a configuration according to the info below?


Budget Range: up to 2,500


System Usage from Most to Least Important: video editing (using Vegas Pro software); home usage


Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS, power supply


Parts Preferences: AMD CPU, but coud be Intel, as well


Overclocking: Maybe


SLI or Crossfire: Maybe


Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050

The Sony Vegas codecs favor AMD from what I know (Mainconcept). Last time I used it didn't have CUDA support, maybe the last version SV10.

The PSU is a 850W one.

Video card: I need some additional help here. I am not sure if editing video demands are about the same of gaming. Just to make it clear: I don´t intend to use the equipment for gaming, rather for video editing. I´ve seen an ATI Radeon HD 6970 card which looks pretty good, but it seems to me that I don´t need that much. Besides that, most top video cards seem to be designed for gaming. Which turns me to the initial question: gaming and video editing demands (concerning video cards) are the same?

For video editing you don't need a powerful video card, the CPU does the job, the video card is just for viewing the result so any cheap video will do. Some programs like Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects can use the GPU for rendering, scaling and some effects. For transcoding the best is to use the CPU, it offers the best quality
