HD4890 - PC getting shutdown while playing games

Hi Guys,

I build up my PC almost 2 years ago. Current specs are:-

PSU: Cooler Master Real Power Pro M520
Mobo : Asus P5NE 650i SLI
CPU: E6750 Core2Duo 2.66
Gfx Card: Radeon HD4890
LCD: Viewsonic(1440X900)
OS: Windows 7

I have been running my HD4890 since 1 year without any problems. But since last 2 months its facing weird problems. While playing games my PC is getting turned off as if somebody pulled the plug out. After shutdown, if I play again it shutsdown more quickly even at intro videos. I am running the fan on 100% but its no use. I am running with case open and air flow is proper.

It has started since I bought COD Black Ops and a 50" full HD plasma. Initially it was turning off on COD only but now its doing it on all games. I have tried running on xp also but its turning off there also.

Dont know if my PSU is faulty or my graphics card. If somebody has any suggestion please help!!

Thanks

Turn the fan down from 100%, it's not necessary.
The 4890 would need more power on a 50" resolution, especially on the newest games like CoDBO and the power supply of course has been aging some. Make sure all the cables are setup proper and nothing's come loose.

If you say it shuts down faster when you played for a while then it's more likely a temperature problem...... What are your temps ?? Fans are spinning properly ? CPU heatsink seating properly and have you used thermal paste ?

Thanks for the suggestions friends. Problem is solved!!

It was CPU that was overheating. I checked in BIOS that it was at 91 degree idle. When playing games it must be getting overheated and turned off. I took everything out from cabinet and cleaned everything. Also applied additional thermal paste on CPU. There was a block of dust and furs in cpu heatsink alone, no air could pass through it!!!

Now everything is working fine, I can run CODBO on 50" for hours. Also turned the fan down to 40%.

I think this config can run fine for another year before I upgrade.
