1k-1.5k gaming computer reccomendations

Hey guys, im looking at building a new computer, and i was wondering if you could give me some advice on what to get.

Approximate Purchase Date: As soon as possible

Budget Range: 1000-1500 AUD

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (CoD, Battlefield3, Crisis), movies/internet.

Parts Not Required: Windows OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: http://www.shopbot.com.au/ (any australian store would be good, as cheaper shipping) or any sites that have free shipping to australia

Country of Origin: Australia, Newcastle

Parts Preferences:

Overclocking: Maybe, rather not if i didn't have to as i havnt did it before

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe. Don't know what this is so im not sure ill need it

Monitor Resolution: Not sure

Additional Comments: id like a nice sleek black case, and i wouldn't mind a window with some lights if its not too expensive. I don't need a real expensive keyboard + mouse either. Maybe a 22-inch monitor, nothing under 20, 24 max :D

  1. All in AUD:

    Corsair 750TX PSU $150

    Intel Core i5 2500k $252

    P8P67 Pro $235

    HAF 912 Case $115

    G-Skill Rip Jaws DDR3 1600 1.5V RAM $121

    Lite-on DVD combo drive $26

GTX 560 Ti Video cards $276

    Window 7 Home Premium 64-bit $110

WD Caviar Black 500 GB hard drive $70

I used the site you suggested to pick the parts. For the video card, HD, DVD combo drive and the RAM, I went further to the specific vendor sites.

That puts you at $1355 for a solid upgradeable PC that will take you through to 2014. The foundation of a good system is good power, so don't sell yourself short in this area. The case is a great mid-tower offering that has considered cable management, good use of space and swapping out of CPU coolers.

You can always add another 560 for an SLI setup to put your performance to just above that of a GTX 580 in the future.

A decent 21.5" HD monitor would run an additional $160:

Do you need a keyboard, mouse, and speakers? You should be able to get all of these for around $60 combined.

This puts you a little over (with $100), but gives you a solid gaming system you can upgrade as necessary.
  2. ok thanks, anyone else have anything to offer or suggestions, ill have the money probly in a week or two, would anything be improved by that time or not?

with the hdd, how hard would it be to add another 500gb in, or just get a 1tb one?

im not sure how much shipping would be for individual proces which may be a bit annoying, if anyone knows any sites with these items that have free shipping to aus, that would be great

oh, and im not too knowledgeable about overclocking, so should i overclock it, and if so can that colling handle it or would i have to upgraade the cooling. or should i just leave it?

There are guides out there for overclocking just about everything. There's an entire section of Tom's forum devoted to it as well. I'd suggest you post there regarding that.

It's not hard at all to add HDDs. You just plug the new one into the power supply and the motherboard. You may have to go into administrative tools->computer management->storage->disk management to set the disk up for windows use, but that's it.

Now if you want a 1TB+ drive right away, that's up to you. Depends what kind of data you plan to keep on the PC. 500GB will take you far if you're just using it for gaming. More would be good if you're storing large amounts of video files or photos.
  4. i could get it all for like 1k if i was in the u.s via newegg.. they dont do international shipping do they?

    ok i found a nice site http://www.estore.com.au
they have free shipping on orders over 200 so thats good, except i only have these of the list on this site:

Intel Core i5-2500K - Quad Core 3.3Ghz to 3.7Ghz Turbo Unlocked Multiplier LGA1155

    Asus P8P67 PRO MB/Socket 1155/Intel P67 Chipset/4x DDR3/SATA3/SATA2/eSATA/RAID/Firewire/USB3.0/8CH Audio/GbLAN/CrossFire/SLI/ATX

WD Caviar Green 1TB SATA II Hard Drive

and the rest ive got from http://www.mwave.com.au/shoppingcart.asp?CartID=mAU@H1CX3GLFZWXVZPKPBSJTWYSBTG41T71U4CZYQHZFOXLWLO

    which is the:

    Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced ATX Midi Tower Case - 4x 5.25" External & 6x 3.5" Internal Drive Bay - 8x Expansion Slots - Cooling Fans - Steel & Plastic - Black (RC-912A-KWN1)

Corsair TX-750 750W ATX Power Supply, 140mm Fan, Dual PCI-E Graphics Card Connector, 8 SATA Connectors, Universal AC input 90~264V (CMPSU-750TX)

    G.Skill 8GB(2x 4GB) Memory Kit - PC3-10666 (1333MHz) DDR3 - 240-pin DIMM - Timing 9-9-9-24-2N - Unbuffered - Non-ECC (F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL)

so all all of that is $1239.38

    - i couldnt find the caviar black WD HD, so is the green fine anyway? its 1tb not 500gb, but i dont know how to read specs for anything else on it
    - also not sure about the optical drive as its like 20bucks shipping from the cheapest site. if i can get it or one like it on estore.com.au it would be cool
    - screens cost so much..
    - what about keyboard and mouse? i dont want too fancy or pricey, and the keyboard i want the keys to be flat not chunky please :) any reccommendations?
    - and i think the products ive chosen are the ones which are listed
  5. may i ask what the point of a ssd is, i mean you can like only get an 80gb one and they are pretty expensive. but they are faster arnt they? but how does it speed up stuff if i want game and that stored on my main 500/1tb hd?
  6. This build allows you to add another one of those factory over clocked gtx 560's later on for SLI

usually builds that total this amount of money have SSD added to it.
If going with quality and performance, adding SSD is a logical step.

Convert US Dollars into Australian Dollars and then come back here and let us know more about that SSD that you think should be included in a $1,500 Australian Dollar build. :p

*Don't forget to include the monitor and o/s with that.
  8. (i dont need an OS,already got one)

is 4gb ram all i need or should i go up to 6 or 8?
  9. Quote:
still has nothing to do with my statement...
a quality performance build usually has SSD, period.
    that's all I'm saying.
    do not get it twisted.

I'm sure an SSD would make a major difference with a gaming build such as this. I mean it's not a quality build unless a peep can load Windows a few seconds faster correct ? God only knows how peeps can get by gaming without an SSD.
  10. so with the 1st and 2nd build, im not sure which case i like better, are they much diff, or even matter? and whats the pros and cons of the 1st builld over the 2nd, and vice versa?
  11. not sure i like the case as much, plus newegg doesnt ship to aus i dont think.

as a question (not trying to sound mean), why do i need the fan controller?
  12. ok thanks, i guess an extra 25ish wont hurt. 1 shift at coles will cover it :P

it doesn't get too bad where i am, sometimes.. :)

  13. coles. its a supermarket where i stack shelves. 12.16 an hr.

i currently live in Newcastle, NSW but the suburb is Fishing Point. and i live next/on the lake.

this summer it got up into the 37C at my place.

so how do you need to control the fan, i mean wouldnt the fan just run and cool it anyway? or do you set it so it will go faster or slower depending on the temp? i wouldve thought it did that anyway
  14. yeah i no. i dont rly mind. its decent for wht i do. and in 3 weeks i get like 15 (cause im 18)

i meant as in auto, wouldnt the fan do that without the controller? tho ill prob get it anyway

will that case go with the other parts?, or the cooler with the other cases?

    ill probly go 8gb ram.

is the 1nd build better than the 1st one mentioned?

only gets that hot here in summer, and summer just finished. it was too hot when it got to 37 all week lol.
  15. what are your redccomendations for ram, either 4gb or 8gb?

does it make much difference, or what will it let me do better than 4gb wont?

not too sure on what to get, and wanna get my money spent right :P
  16. ok thanks. or 2x3gb to meet in the middle with 6gb lol :)
  17. ohhh, lucky i asked, not that i really know what it means.

so now ill just got with 2x2gb, and i save like 50bucks on not getting the 8gb :P

are there any more cases that are good that your recommend. i didnt really like the look of the on u said. i like the red/blue lights, but i woundt mind the 2nd case without the handles cause its like smooth/shiny/glossy black with the cool red light.
  18. im looking at some cooler master ones now, $120 AUD.
im not sure wht xfire/sli is. would i want/need to in the future? what benefits does it do?

i think im currently deciding between the haf 22 and and cooler master scout, (the ones listed up above)
  19. ok, so they are basically the same, except one is for nvideo, the other is amd?
so if i got mid tower, i might not fit another card? but i dont NEED to do it do i? what games will i need to do that for?

will the 2nd system handle BF3 on highest? or at least heaps good
  20. ok, im thinkging between theses 2:
and now i like this case again

tho i wish the blue light penetrated more on the 1st one, and it had usb 3 (tho i dont think that will matter that much). and also if u could turn the light on or off on either of them.

ill post a link/pic of what ill basically be getting, can u double check that ive actually got the right specific parts, of

that fan control is twice as much here :( (ill look on other sites)

EDIT: i changed some sites around and got it to 1315.94 and itll be a bit more on postage for one more site which it doesnt say yet. still need keyboard/mouse/screen

i think im leaning towards the scout case. that will do fine with all this stuff wont it?
does it matter if it doesnt support water cooling?

does the gfx card support hdmi, so i can plug the cable into it and go to the tv?
  21. This article offers a little insight regarding RAM speeds, latencies, and gaming performance:

  22. what do you guys think of these monitors? the one, one of you suggested was a 21.5in for 180 bucks. but from here u can get like 24in ones for the same price. or even a 21.5 for like 120. what do you guys reckon? i think only like a 22 would be fine for the cheaper price
  23. (didn't post the link above for the monitors.. ill find it later)

im looking at the ram from here http://www.itdevice.com.au/live/product_info.php?cPath=354_205_353_416&products_id=2942&osCsid=46dcf20655e28185afd6beb4c0d533a5

and in the specifications it says its
    M/B Chipset is Intel P55.

    does that matter?

and it only has these 2 in the Qualified Motherboards List:

    ASRock P55 Extreme
    ASRock P55 Deluxe

    does this matter also?
  24. oh right :P , the ASRock P67 EXTREME4 Intel P67 Chipset B3 Socket 1155 Motherboard

im going with the 2nd build that was reccommended.
  25. umm, im not sure. i might end up doing it if i need too. do you reckon i should?
i think i read on a forumths morning that this guy used an 8 latency and it still worked.
(i think he said tho that it defaulted to 9, and he had to manually change it to 8.)

so would i need to change ram than?
  26. how much does 8 and 9 affect the speed anyways? like in real time?
  27. is benching just like comparing the products?

so for gaming/videos/internet and word, it wont matter? so should i just save some money and dont risk it and go for the 9's?
  28. ok thanks.

here is what it looks likes and the prices/websites:
