Hi all I'm looking at the hp envy range 14 and 17 inches.

The 14 has a 1366x768 screen res with a 5650 graphics card

The 17 has a 1080p with a 5850 graphics card

Which pairing would perform better in games bearing in mind the 5650 is powering lower resolution display but the 5850 is more powerful powering a higher res display.

CPU wise the 14 has a core i5 460m 2.5 ghz

The 17 has a 1.6 i7 quad

Thanks in advance

im just worried the 5850 notebook gpu wouldnt be able to cut the mustard at 1080p games wise as i wouldnt want to decrease the res, i would rather play at the native display res , was just wondering if it was better going with a lower screen res with the 5650.

It is hard to tell but the HD5850m is based on desktop HD5770, with lower clocks, which handles that resolution well in most games.

just scale it back a bit to like 16X10 if your having lag and it will be fine, it will no doubt run most all games in 720p (1280X720) so just change the settings in the games and go with the 5850m its much more powerful than the other.. bottom line if your going for performance and you want it in a laptop, your gonna pay a premium price.... also in the end its much better and cheaper to game on a desktop...
