Hi,

I am in the process of building a new system around a i5-2400 and will use the below motherboard
Asus P8H67-M LE H67

I am waiting until more funds become available before investing in a new GPU.

I have an old Gainward 7800GT 512MB

MY question is, can I use this GPU for the new build for 1 or 2 months or is the graphics capabilities of the Sandybridge much more advanced than the 7800GT?

Thanks for your comments in advance.

I would certainly say any respectable graphics card can beat a CPU. What are you planning to use the system for?
Remember that the 7800GT is, I think Dx10 maximum.

You must be new to the science of computing. The 7800gt dates back to 2005-2006 era of DX9 gpus. For a slot plug and general use it is fine and don't let any one be a critic of that. You can still enjoy light gaming and old games on that card just fine.

Thanks for the comments,

Yes the card is quite old but has proved very reliable and can handle a few older games just fine :)

The new build would be mainly for day to day use, no gaming until I get the GPU upgrade.
