I always thought my XFX Radeon HD 4770 supported DirectX 10.1. However when I ran my dxdiag, it showed my directX version to be DirectX11. This is what showed up...

DX Diag shows the software version of direct X, you are running windows 7 so you have DX 11 installed, but your hardware only has the ability to execute DX 10.1 so you cannot run games in DX 11 mode, your 4770 still only supports up to 10.1
