I built my PC a little over 5 years ago, I just replaced the hard drive, and feel like an idiot..At the same time as installing the Hard Drive my PSU decided to go on the fritz. It's make at first was just a slight high pitch noise, but it's grown louder and louder. At first I thought it was the new hard drive so I got a replacement, it seemed better at first but it's not. Well the noise is back with a vengeance, I'm guessing caps or voltage regulator doesn't sound like it's the fan.

I have a Coolermaster real power 450 right now, I know I'm really pushing on antiquated parts but my health has been pretty bad last couple years and as such I can not afford to build the computer I wish I could run. So for right now I'm trying to find something decent but not a heap of cash that I don't have.

The biggest problem in all this, I have a DFI Lanparty Ultra D mobo, they have been known to be really fickle with wattage, and lower quality power supplies from what i remember reading back in the day.

Aside from the mobo I have
Socket 939 single core Athlon 64 3000+ (no overclocking)
Passivly cooled Nvidia 8400
2GB Corsair XMS ram DDR400 (@2.7V running 3.3.3.8 in 1T)
1 sata DVDRW 1 pata DVDrom
Samsung 1TB F3 Spinpoint Hard drive
2 x 120MM Globalwin NC bearing fans

So I should be able to run 430 - 500 watts and not have any issues...Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated.

Antec EA-380D -- Cheap (find it for ~$45 online-- cheaper with rebates) and is of good quality. Then there is the Corsair VX430 V2 which is also of good quality and cheap.

Usually i buy whichever is cheaper to replace old psu's on my family and friends computers when they crap out .
