More about best dedicated physx card
  1. gtx460 but would not a gts250 work just as well!
  2. Would there be any different between a gtx 460 and a gts 450 for physx
  3. I don't think there would be a big difference between the 460 and 450 as a dedicated PhysX card, particularly when paired with a GTX580. You should go for the one that is cooler, quieter, and uses less power. I would slap in your GTS450 Cyclone and use that.
  4. honestly i think GTS450 is more than enough to be dedicated physx card.any higher would be overkill IMO. some people will go lesser such as GT240 and still get nice performance with advance physx enabled

I am still trying to figure out what is wrong with it i have horrible temps lol, 70c plus at load after 10 min 70% fan, i have good ventilation in case maybe bad card.

considering your air flow is good maybe you can inspect your card first. check the heatsink and look for any loose screw or maybe you can try replacing the thermal paste. if the problem still occur you might want to RMA the card

You may have a point. All the reviews show load temps in the low-50c's:

    MSI GTS450 Cyclone

Hum this isnt looking good now. Just took apart the card. and you know the metal things around the chip. Well there is TIM connecting those together lol!

Yep, something's not right, but maybe you can fix it by cleaning everything up and reapplying some good thermal paste.
  10. Cia, I know this is off subject, but didn't you get a hd4870 x2? I am just curious what happened to that.
  11. It's my opinion, if you still have the option, to forgo the dedicated physX card, and trade in the 580 for two 570's. Your overall cost will be about the same. Most the time you'll have much better performance, you can run physX and SLI at the same time. Even when SLI doesn't work to it's optimum, you still have a 570 to power the game.

This discussion has some history in a couple other threads over the past few weeks. He needs to work with what he has.

He has described a lot of different systems he has been building. I wouldn't doubt is there is a swap that can be made somewhere to utilize the 580, and go with two 570's in this one.

I suppose if his father has $700 laying around after just ponying up $500 last week for the GTX580.

That leaves the option to exchange the 580 for 570's and he can pay the difference.

I doubt he needs a dedicated physX card, I'm just looking at ways he can get a more sensible solution.

    Awwwwww.
  20. How many computers are you building out of them, and what is the use of those computers? I doubt you need a new dedicated physX card with all those cards available.

It was USPS lol. the card was litterly smashed, The seller had insurance on the package so i got my money back. I am still looking for another 4870x2 for a build though.

    2x high end gaming
  23. Man, that really sucks. http://www.xpcgear.com/sapphire-4850-x2-100270sr-video-card.html Not a hd4870 x2, but a hd4850 x2.

There are tons of them on ebay i am waiting for velocity micro outlet to have some refurb ones again. 30day warranty cant beat that.
  25. I see 3 options:
    1) Just stick that 8800gtx. For most GPU accelerated PhysX games, that's plenty. (assuming you even have physX games to play).
    2) Put the gtx260 in there. That's often shown as the highest performing card you need for max physX performance.
    3) Use the gts 450 which should be similar to the 260.
  26. Wouldn't the 9600 cards be ideal as PhysX cards? They are getting outdated as gaming cards.

That would depend on the physX game. From my experience, a 8800gts was not quite enough for Sacred 2, the 9800gt was. Other games have different needs. I bet Metro 2033 would work with a 9600, I know Batman AA doesn't work well with it.

For this build ill just get another gtx 580 and sli it. Thanks people.

Otherwise ill just use the 9600 gtx's for physx, I have 4 laying around.
