Alcohol to clean component

Im building a pc for a neighbour he is very old so i managed to find some working REAAAlly old components but there really dirty and dusty could i use 99% alcohol to dunk them in to clean them off for him ?

I have used some rubbing alcohol to clean off thermal paste but I wasn't cleaning off any of the contact points with it. I would not let anything sit in alcohol for days there are too many glues etc. that it might break down. Maybe something like this contact cleaner for a short term http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-D5S-6-Deoxit-Contact-Cleaner...
