What sockets to avoid if I want to upgrade my system in 2/4years?

I am building a new gaming system for myself. History has shown that the system will most likely last me a good 3-4 years and maybe even more, so I would like to know which interfaces are good to put money on that will likely be reasonably active even in 2/4 years?

2yrs time most of the interfaces on the market will probably be valid to some extent or another
4yrs all will probably be obsolete .

This is just a wild guess though, some platforms get extended life, some get killed off early.

As intel and amd are always changing the amd 3 socket is about the longest and oldest I can remember but intel seems to change every other cpu cycle .. but dont hold me to this I figure 12 months to 1 and 1/2 years is all you can about count on now so I cant suggest either of the 2 cpu camps.
