No. Both are Sandy Bridge. One is just better for multi-threaded applications and clocked faster. Their manufacturing process is almost identical.

Pentium B 940? Never heard of it. There is the Pentium D 940, and it's NOT a sandy bridge... Pentiums are lower end junk now. Get the i5 or i7.

Thats nice, but the 2500 isn't even mentioned in these posts. For those of you like me who didn't know...

Its a dual SB core CPU aimed at the lower end mobile market. I agree with browsing in that if you aren't doing heavy CPU tasks like encoding or gaming then it won't really matter. Otherwise you'll want the SB or Core series CPU.

the add for staples said that it is a pentium B, tried to find anything on a pentium B and couldn't find anything. Must be a typo I am guessing.

For most people the difference between these two processors would come down to the Intel® Core™ i5-2410 supporting Turbo mode and hyper-threading. There is more to it than and you can see the differences at http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=52224,55626,. In the end the Intel Pentium B940 is a entry level processor that is rated at the low end of our processor line up.
