If you have pci e 2.0x16 can you use 2.1x16 x2 video cards for crossfire

i would like to try crossfire with 2 SAPPHIRE 100293DP Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card w/ Eyefinity. But the mob supports 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16 or dual at x8 / x8 mode. My question is will these cards work in a x8 mode or not work at all

Welcome to Tom's Hardware...

They will work in dual at x8,x8 mode in CrossFireX. PCIe 2.1 cards are compatible with PCIe 2.0 motherboards.

They will work perfectly fine. The 2.1 cards are backward compatible with 2.0 slots (though they have some issues with old 1.0 slots).

They'll run perfectly fine with the x8 / x8 configuration as well. With the 5570's you won't see any loss in performance at all.
