Hello,

I just got a new Canon Powershot A95. I would like to purchase a new CF
card to replace the measly 32MB card included with the camera. I have
been looking around and prices seem to vary greatly depending on the
brand. I am going to purcahse a 512MB card and was wondering what
brands anyone here would recommend. I would prefer to spend a bit more
money on a card if it's worth the piece of mind that my the card is more
reliable. Thanks in advance for the help.

Costco.com sells the SanDisk Ultra II and also the standard SanDisk CF for a good price.
Also...Costco will ALWAYS accept returns for ANY reason if you ever have a problem.
They also carry some Lexar cards.

I would say the two big ones are Sandisk and Lexar, as far as brands go.
With some of today's newer cameras shooting 3 fps, you might want to look at
the faster cards. They don't cost much more, and the I/O is much faster
than their slower counterparts.

I'm using plain old Sandisk 512 cards on my D70 and they work fine. Just
ordered another one, but it's a Sandisk II. It will be interesting to see
if it speeds up downloads to the computer.

zipzoomfly.com has lower prices, free 2-day Fedex shipping and no tax.
This makes it substantially cheaper overall than Costco. As for
problems, Sandisk has a 5 year warranty.

I buy lots of things at Costco, probably too much. Their Kirland photo
paper is superb, and probably Ilford smooth gloss in disguise. But
it's not the best place for CF cards.

I agree about their recent version of Kirkland Photo Paper. It is really quite amazing
for the price.
Because I have no idea about it's archival qualities, though, I use it only for
short-term, non-critical, casual stuff.

I know that cheaper prices can be found on CF cards, but Costco's no-questions-asked
return policy (even without a receipt!) is worth real dollars when things go wrong.

Agreed.

He has a A95, higher speed cards won't change the speed of writing as the cam
is probably already slower then the slowest CF cards.

I thought the speed of downloads depends on the USB speed?

Anyways, I agree re Sandisk and Lexar recommendation.
