Hello everyone! Every few years I either build a new rig or decide to upgrade my current one, and this time I am looking to do an upgrade. Below are my system specs:

Windows XP
Maximus Formula Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.00 GHz
4 GB Ram
750W PSU
Nvidia 8800 GT graphics card

The computer was originally built with the goal of running Crysis on a 1280 x 1024 display, which was achieved. This time I want to be able to run Crysis 2 on the same or better resolution.

The PSU was upgraded yesterday after the first one puked, the first one was 650W, and the new one was installed with the idea of upgrading the computer in mind.

I would like to stick with Nvidia graphics card, but upgrade to Windows 7 so I can use DirectX11.

My budget is $1,000. However, I would love to remain well under that.

Cheers!

What power supply is that?

Given you have a good reliable power supply:

i5 2500k

$225

2x2GB=4GB DDR3

$50

If your power supply is good, I'm thinking:

These upgrades are going to put around you right around $1000.

Look...You have $1000 to work with. Now is the time to go for something that will take you through the next 3 years and give you incredible video capabilities (you could always get...

Now is the time to go for something that will take you through the next 3 years and give you incredible video capabilities (you could always get another for your next upgrade and run them in SLI!). The single Nvidia card is awesome plus you will have a new system architecture you'll be able to roll with for the next 3-5 years. You'll be going from a lower-end system to a high-end system by doing this.
