No matter what game I play it will freeze followed by a BSOD:

0X000000EA, 0X8A0FE020, 0X88641240, OXB84E7CBC, 0X00000001

"ati2dvag Beginning dump of phyiscal memory"

sometimes its just a error message reading ATI2DVAG then the screen goes all multi colored.

I updated the drivers and no luck, how can I fix this without having to reformat?

PC specs:

CPU- AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition
GPU- Powercolor 5770
mobo - asus m3n78-vm

Did you previously have an nvidia card or chipset? You could try driver sweeper...

Also what games ?? -- The 5770's are sometimes autodetected as the Old Nvidia FX57xx series cards(this happens on some games released before the ATI 5770 was released) and the game settings are setup for those cards which had some shader implementation problems so many times the shaders are disabled for them - so you need to manually reset things in the game options or configuration file to get things working properly.

Counter strike source
the sims 3

Definitely don't use the drivers that came with the card. They are more than likely very old. I would recommend, however, using a version or two previous to the current 11.1 (try 10.12, 10.11 or 10.10 prolly) and see if they work better. You can get them off the AMD website.
