I am looking to build a gamer system for less than $1000. I've put together the following components for under $800 and wanted to get all of your input.

CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black
MOB Elitegroup ECS IC780M-A2
RAM Kingston 4GB x2 DDR3 1333
HSF Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
PSU Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750w
GPU Radion HD 5770
HDD Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM
DVD Lite0n Black 24X
Case Cooler Master HAF 922
Thermal C Arctic Silver 5

I know the MOB does not allow core unlocking, but I do not plan on unlocking any cores. I don't even know if that would be a beneficial option with the CPU I picked.

I could save a little $$ by dropping from 8GB RAM to 4GB RAM, but memory is a fairly cheap component in this process.

I'm also considering buying a rig, if the price was competitive and had similar/superior components.

What do you guys think?

You're limited to one video card on that motherboard so, if you have budget (and you do), get the best single card you can.
Instead of the Radeon 5770, Consider going with a Radeon 6950 or GTX 560 ti video card for $100 more putting you at $900. Additionally, even better, consider a Radeon 6970 or GTX 570 for an additional $200 putting your total at $1000. You'll be happy you did and still stay within your budget.

Good setup otherwise.

Thanks Ubercake. I upgraded the video card and MOB and this is my current setup:

CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black
MOB Gigabyte GA 870-A-USB3
RAM Gskill Ripjaw Series 4GB x2
HSF Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
PSU Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750w
GPU Radion HD 5870 1GB
HDD Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM
DVD Lite0n Black 24X
Case Cooler Master HAF 922 RC-922M
Thermal C Arctic Silver 5

My total on Newegg is under $900 with shipping ($885)

I read some issues that certain Gigabyte MOB have non standard ATX screws. I hope this Gigabyte MOB doesn't have issues when I get it.

I'll tell you what... that 5870 is still a great card. Performance is far beyond that of the 5770 and has performance better than the 68xx series and close to that of the 6950. You'll like it. Good choice.

The motherboard, I'm not quite sure about. It's not crossfire-ready. I'd recommend this Gigabyte board to let you add another 5870 at some point:

It adds $30 to what you have, but I think you'll find it's better from an upgrade standpoint.
