Please help. tf2 wont steam wont work although it did yesterday

Hello,every time i click on the tf2 icon on my laptop, an error message comes up saying,"SteamStartup() failed: SteamSStartup (0xf, 0x0036DFAC) failed with error 1: failed to take master pipe lock" please help! i have no idea what to file this under so ill just guess.

Did you start up steam before attempting to start up TF2? Im not sure how well the games handle having to start up steam from their icon.

Try launching TF2 from within steam and see if that works.

i might sound like a complete idiot, but how do you reinstall steam?

mine wouldnt run either, apparently there was a lot of traffic trying to get the update this evening, be patient it will work

go to control panel, programs, uninstall/change a program, find steam, uninstall steam, go to google.com, search for steam, install steam. Assuming you have vista/windows7
