I am looking into building a cheap system for HD movie playback and streaming, however I am having second thoughts about the CPU. Having looked at the specs, the G620 paired with 2 gigs of DDR3 RAM makes me worry about stuttering playback and buffering issues. Has anybody had experience with this (or older generation) Pentium processor and movie watching?

It will be fine so long as you het a decent H67 or Z68 chipset motherboard. Intels IGP has supported HDCP since their HD IGP, the previous version IGP, via HDMI and can playback 1080P with no issues.

The HD2000 IGP is much more powerful and will easily eat through HD video playback with no issues at all.

I seen this combo, it's really cheap. I found out the pentium g620 has the ht threading feature disabled on it. So it will be slower than the 2100 dual core.
The regor is still fairly fast, maybe closer the the dual core pentiums.

$64.99 ($54.99 after mail-in rebate card )
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Mostly that board has am3+ so if you want you can upgrade to the future bulldozer cpus. It has amd's hd-3200 that has avio, hdmi, ect.
If it proves to be not enough gpu power you can opt for a half-height hd-4670 or hd-5550, hd-6550 card that has 320 or 400 shaders. (assuming this is going to be a half-height micro-atx htpc case)

Grand Total:* $114.97 with board, cpu, cooler, and free game.

-The regor is known to clock to 3.5ghz on stock voltage, while still running cool.
Even the 760g, hd-3200 is known to overclock as well. Search on u-tube for people who are running games on it.
