I am currently putting together a custom build and the only thing left to purchase is the RAM. I am interested in buying G.Skill ARES series for the low profile since i have a zalman 9900max heatsink. I want to put in 4x4gb total, but am not sure which speed. Mobo is ga-z68x-ud3h-b3 which supports 2133 RAM. ARES 2133 RAM is 1.6v whereas the board says supports 1.5v, and the timings are 11-11-11-31. The 1866 is 1.5v and timings are 10-11-10-30. I am kinda new to OC and dont know whether to buy slower RAM with better timing and try OC or hope the 1.6v will work on the board and leave at stock settings with higher timings. PLEASE HELP!! Am i over thinking this?

In short, my ultimate goal is to run 16GB at 2133 at the best timings and have it work without worrying about voltage issues and no boot up

i5 2500K
Gigabyte z68X-UD3H-B3
CoolerMaster HAF X
CoolerMaster Silent Pro 850W
1TB Caviar Black WD
RAM ?????

you can use sysoftware sandra to check your board (memory slot) which type you can
select for a ram.. then before buying such ram, you can read more reviews.. :)

CPU-z can give reliable data but isnt it it will just gives the current installed hardware. how if its not yet installed... the ram is not yet there right. CPU-z have memory and spd tab, memory tab gives the total memory install and timing, while the spd tab shows the memory installed per slot and the detailed timing table per ram..

OK, u may know that 1.5v @ 1333Mhz is the requirement for your CPU.

The sweet spot is 1600MHZ @ 1.5v.

U can push quality RAM on the quality mobo.

Why so high RAM OC?

U know u are voiding the warranty by doing that.

How far are u going to OC the CPU? Past 4.8GHz?

2500K will run @ 1.65v, but it has higher failure rate than other, so it is not recommended.
