hi, i just built my first custom PC and when i plugged it in, it ran until it said "cpu over temperature error" and it shut down, when it starts booting i get one beep but the same thing happens and it shuts down. i guessed the fan wasn't placed correctly so i removed and and i can't put it back on now :/  is it broken? its the i7 960 default fan and i can see the black "pins" from underneath, i don't know if i should?

If you seated the heatsink properly over the cpu, you'll see the pins underneath are all even. Be sure you use the correct fan header for the cpu fan. The Intel push pins must be lined up correctly for you to push them down. I turn them one quarter turn before installing or removing the heatsink. When you press down, you should hear the pins click one by one until all four are engaged, and they'll all be even underneath. The center portion of the pins are white on all the Intel heatsinks I've used; they will stick out in the middle when properly seated.
