Cpu sockets

Hello,
I am a student i am not very familiar with computers. i am trying to find what the last five intel and amd cpu sockets that are for sale. I am not allowed to list server or laptop sockets. i do know that the laptop sockets are surface mount but how can i find out the difference.

The last five consumer sockets for intel is LGA1155, LGA1156, LGA1366, LGA775 and socket(PGA) 478.

For AMD, its socket(PGA)FM1, AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2. Theoretically, The AM series could also be considered one socket, as it maintained some compatibility. The 2 before AM2 are socket(PGA) 939 and 754.

Technically, LGA771 which is a server socket counts as a consumer one as there was one EE chip released to consumers. This applies also to AMD, where the same thing happened to socket F.

Laptop chips aren't all surface mount actually, most of them are PGA (ie. pins on the chip).
